Born in Vermont to native Long Islanders, Janine Fleri is a writer, filmmaker, and video artist currently residing in Queens, NY. Ms. Fleri studied experimental film making, film history, and creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. She is currently working towards a Media Management Certificate/Masters Degree in Media Studies at The New School.

BP is a Canadian magazine for independent and underground writers and artists. They selected my short story “Gynecomastia” to compete in the first ever Indie Writers’ Death Match in 2008, and have also published a review of a livingroom performance piece by Poingly.
AbecedariumNYC is an interactive online exhibition hosted by the New York Public Library that reflects on the history, geography, and culture – both above and below ground – of New York City through 26 unusual words. The site features my super-8/dv piece for the word “Welkin” meaning “the vault of heaven” or simply, “the sky.”
La Superette is an annual art fair which originated in Paris. In 2005 I created photography books bound in VHS cases, 2006 was the year of the coloring ‘zine, and in 2008 I collaborated with my partner Jason Kanellis in crafting multi-purpose plant ornaments for X-mas, H-kha, and K-za.
Hell On Reels: Astoria Moving Picture Festival
A collaborative effort between artist/curator Susan Agliata and myself, HOR was a forum for the exhibition of unique short-format moving picture work. We held four screenings over the summer of 2006 featuring pieces by artists ranging from our local Astoria to Australia and Switzerland.
